At the Still Point of a Turning World

With Rebecca Ellis & Will Medd, supported by senior Ashram teachers

Many of us long for stillness in the midst of our moving, busy lives and turbulent world. Stillness is a theme that takes us deeply into Yoga and Meditation, and so also into the mysteries of simply being alive..

About At the Still Point in a Turning World

Join us for this residential retreat at Mandala Ashram in South Wales – a place Rebecca and Will both know and love deeply; one which creates space for deeper inquiry informed by ancient traditions, along with fun, open conversation, deep rest ... and so much more.

Through yoga, meditation, and relaxation practices, we will explore the relationship between movement and stillness, between our inner experience and the outer world. We’ll inquire into stillness, spacious awareness and what gets in the way of accessing these possibilities? We will ask what happens to movement when we come into stillness, and to stillness when we come into movement?

These and more are the kinds of questions we’ll be exploring through Asana (physical practice), Pranayama (breathing), Meditation and Yoga Nidra – while immersed in Ashram life – cooking, gardening, eating, chanting, resting.

At the Still Point of the Turning World is a famous line from T.S. Elliot’s Burnt Norton and is so close in meaning and in spirit to Eric Schiffman’s Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness.

More About This Retreat

The beautiful setting of Mandala Ashram on a hillside in Carmarthenshire could not be more fitting to find time to be alone, to be together, to move, to be still, to be active, to rest deeply – and to explore the teachings of ancient traditions relevant for modern times. This is a natural landscape of swirling winds and swooping Red Kites over the hilltops and in the valleys. It is also a landscape awash with pools of stillness and silence – a landscape which perhaps mirrors the interplay in our minds and bodies of rampaging thoughts, anxieties, joys, ever-changing sensations, and the potential for deep quiet and stillness.

We are so lucky that all the while, we will be held and nourished by the love and experience of Ashram Tutors and team members with whom we’ll share the retreat.
