About the Silent Retreat

Listen to silence; it has so much to say

Rumi

In today’s fast-paced world, we are often surrounded by the noise and activity of the external environment. Equally intrusive can be the noise within, the constant stream of thoughts and inner dialogue that fills the mind.

The practice of silence offers a precious opportunity to calm the busyness of the mind and emotions. It invites us to connect with a deeper stillness beneath all surface activity—a stillness where we can rest and experience a revitalizing refreshment of our energies.

Beyond this deep inner nourishment, silence opens the door to greater self-understanding, insight, and the realization of more fundamental layers of our Being. This silence itself becomes a wellspring of inspiration and creativity. As we become more aware of this stillness, we naturally open to the gentle promptings of the heart and intuition.

Each day will begin with a guided yoga class, followed by collective chanting and meditation. During meditation, we will explore a theme for you to revisit and reflect on throughout the day.

Throughout the day, there will be times when we gather to sit together in stillness for 45 minutes. Each afternoon, there will be a two-hour guided session incorporating asana practice, yoga nidra (meditative relaxation), and related meditation and pranayama techniques. Additionally, there will be satsang (question and answer sessions), opportunities for one-on-one guidance and sharing with one of the teachers, and the daily practice of karma yoga (selfless service).
