This 3-day retreat is for therapists, caregivers, yoga teachers, neighbours, friends, community workers or simply anyone with an interest in sharing simple and accessible yoga practices with people who may find going to mainstream classes challenging or inappropriate. It is designed with the purpose of introducing simple practices to enrich lives of people who may not be feeling fully seen or even excluded by mainstream society and yoga communities.

About This Retreat

Increasing numbers of people care for or support others either informally as a family member or friend, or in a professional capacity. Yoga can be an effective tool for you when supporting people with a wide range of physical, learning or mental health issues ranging from, general ageing to reduced mobility, down syndrome to dementia, autism to cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis to arthritis. Throughout the retreat we will explore movement, breath, relaxation and simple meditation practices, as well as different techniques and skills that can enhance the yoga experience for both care giver and receiver. This will be a very practical and hands-on course and participants will be encouraged to share alternative yoga practices and ideas with others within the group.

In addition to offering you time to relax and unwind in the Ashram, the course will include:

  • Asana practices - including how to work hands on with people with limited mobility, and how to use movement and breath to maximise the effect of simple practices
  • Mantra - using sound and mantra to explore releasing emotions and enabling and encouraging self-expression
  • Pranayama – working with accessible practices that can harmonise, balance and uplift energies
  • Relaxation and meditation - exploring different ways to experience deep relaxation and an inner subtle connection with that which lies deeper within all of us.
