Below you'll find details about our location, how to reach us by car, by public transport from within the UK, and by air from abroad.
However you travel, we wish you a safe and pleasant journey and look forward to welcoming you on arrival.

Our Location

The Ashram is located on the North-Eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, a wild area of natural beauty. We occupy a secluded hilltop site with breathtaking views over the lovely Tywi Valley to the Beacons and the 'Black Mountain'. You'll find us about 1.5 hour drive Northwest of Cardiff, or 45 mins East of Carmarthen along the A40, between the small market towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery.

Travelling By Car

For satnavs our postcode is: SA19 8NR - This will take you to a nearby farm, so for the final stage of your journey please refer to the directions below.

The coordinates of the Ashram are: N 51 degrees 59'32.9" W 003 degrees 55'21.8" (or N51.99247 W3.92272)

Driving from London, the South East or South West:

  • M4 to Junction 49.
  • A483 to Llandeilo.
  • A40 towards Llandovery.
  • 6 miles after Llandeilo, just after Abermarlais Caravan Park, turn left (signposted Llansadwrn).
  • Turn right at the T junction in Llansadwrn village.
  • After Llansadwrn village take the first left (signposted Carmel).
  • Continue for 2 miles.
  • Turn left into the Ashram - there is a small white signpost on the right-hand side of the lane.
  • Drive carefully up the track - watch out for sleeping policemen, culverts and sheep!

Driving from the North or the Midlands:

  • From Llandovery A40 towards Llandeilo.
  • 4 miles after Llandovery, turn right onto A482 towards Lampeter.
  • Just less than 1 mile after Llanwrda, turn left towards Llansadwrn.
  • Take the first right (signposted Carmel).
  • Continue for 2 miles.
  • Turn left into the Ashram - there is a small white signpost on the right-hand side of the lane.
  • Drive carefully up the track - watch out for sleeping policemen, culverts and sheep!

By Public Transport

If you are traveling by public transport you will either take a train to a nearby town and then a 20 min taxi ride to the Ashram, or a coach to Swansea followed by a bus to a nearby town and then a taxi (see below for local taxi services).

If you are coming by public transport please plan your journey here and home again before you come. The Ashram is located in a rural area so services are limited on Sundays. Traveline Cymru (link is external) has a useful journey planner. 

Train

You will need to come via Swansea or Shrewsbury and then on the 'Heart of Wales' line to Llandovery or Llangadog railway station.  Then you will need to take a taxi (see below).

National Rail (link is external) or call 08457 48 49 50

The Heart of Wales Travel Centre (link is external) or 01597 82 20 53. This travel centre often offers tickets which are significantly cheaper than standard rail fares.

Train routes are:

  • from London Paddington: to Swansea; then take the train to Llangadog (via Heart of Wales line).
  • from the Midlands and North of England: to Shrewsbury; then take the train to Llangadog (via Heart of Wales line).
  • from Heathrow airport: bus shuttle to Reading Railway Station (this is a regular service; takes about half an hour); then get the train to Swansea; then take the train to Llanwrda.
  • from Gatwick airport: train to Reading; then get the train for Swansea; finally take the train to Llangadog.
  • from Stanstead airport: train to Birmingham New Street; then train for Shrewsbury; finally get the train to Llangadog (via Heart of Wales line)
  • from Manchester airport: train to Crewe; then change train for Shrewsbury; at Shrewsbury, get the Heart of Wales line to Llangadog (via Heart of Wales line).
  • from Bristol airport: take a bus to Bristol Temple Meads train station; then take the train to Swansea; finally take the train to Llangadog (on Heart of Wales line).
  • from Cardiff International Airport: train to Bridgend then change for Swansea; finally take the train to Llangadog.

Coach and Bus

Take a National Express coach to Swansea then the bus to Llandeilo then taxi (see below).

You will need to book your taxi in advance as there are no taxis waiting at the station. It takes about 20 minutes to get from Llandeilo or Llandovery to the Ashram, or 15 minutes from Llangadog. You will need cash to pay the driver. Cost is £25 to £30. 

By Air

If you are traveling to the Ashram from abroad, you can fly into any of these airports:

  • London Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted (it is also possible to come via Luton but the train journey requires several changes)
  • Birmingham
  • Manchester
  • Cardiff
  • Bristol

You will then need to catch a train or coach and bus and taxi (see above) – or hire a car.

Our Founder

Swami Nishchalananda founded Mandala Yoga Ashram on his return from India after spending 14 years with his Guru, Swami Satyananda, studying all aspects of yoga and imbibing the true essence of this ancient tradition. He is recognised as a genuine Yoga Acharya - a Master of Yoga.
